With Fellowes High School in Pembroke now closed due to a COVID-19 outbreak, where do we go from here? As of Wednesday afternoon, all students and staff at Fellowes High School are asked to self-monitor for symptoms. Further direction will be given to those who have been identified as a contact to a case. Anyone with symptoms should self-isolate and contact the Renfrew County Virtual Triage Assessment Centre (RCVTAC) to book an appointment for testing. Director of Education for the Renfrew County District School Board Pino Buffone says this afternoon, all staff at the school will be tested.
When asked about the possibility of staff and students not wearing masks in the building, the Director of Education mentioned that there is a legisital reality of the vibrant, dynamic nature of teaching with many students and many sites in play that creates challenges the board has to mitigate overtime. Dr. Cushman, Acting Medical Officer of Health with the RCDHU says the harsh lesson learned from this outbreak is that we need to remind ourselves how each and every one of us should conduct ourselves in the time of COVID-19. Currently there is no time frame for the school to be reopen but Buffone says they hope to have staff and students back in the classroom as soon as possible.
