If you’ve been wondering about the red rock shoes you saw in your travels Wednesday, it was an initiative in support of International FASD Awareness Day.
Family and Children’s Services of Renfrew County got to raise awareness of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder by locating Red Shoe rocks at a number of locations throughout the county.
The red shoe rocks were visible at the County of Renfrew building, the County of Renfrew Paramedic building, Renfrew Town Hall, Burnstown Beach and the Swinging Bride, the scenic lookout in Westmeath, Pembroke City Hall, the Pembroke Fire Hall and Riverside Park in Pembroke.
They were also placed at Family and Children’s Services of Renfrew County offices at Mary St. and Isabella St. in Pembroke and at the Renfrew Office at 114 Argyle St. S.
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome is a spectrum disorder that impacts each individual differently. It’s caused by prenatal alcohol exposure- and is a global health issue, a disability rights issue, a women’s health issue, a food security issue, a housing issue, a criminal justice issue and a mental health issue simultaneously.
