The Pembroke and Area Airport was busy this week for the first ever walk the runway event. Communications Coordinator Jennifer Layman says over 160 people registered for the event.
The event Wednesday night (Sept. 2nd) was helping raise money to repave the runway at the airport which hasn’t been done in 52-years. Layman says if you weren’t able to make it out, but still want to support the airport you can get more details on their website or Facebook page.
Laurentian Hills Mayor Jed Reinwald walked the entire runway and says without the local airport he wouldn’t have a grandson today.
Reinwald actually purchased the first foot of runway for $250 and is encouraging others who can to do the same.
