The Town of Renfrew is forging ahead with its street lighting conversion.
When Raglan Street was revamped a couple of years ago, light-emitting diode (LED) technology was used, as well as currently being employed in new subdivision construction.
Development and Works Director Mike Asselin says the savings in power consumption and maintenance has been substantial, and its time to get on with the job.
Asselin says LED lights mean a 64 percent cost reduction versus traditional sodium lighting.
Eleven hundred streetlights will be upgraded to LED technology under the Save-on-Energy initiative, and various dignitaries will gather at Railway Avenue and Xavier Street Friday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 for speeches and a demonstration.
