The County of Renfrew advocated for several projects at the annual Association of Ontario Municipalities (AMO) conference.
Representatives from the health committee met virtually with the Minister of Long-Term Care, Doctor Merrilee Fullerton and the highlighted the fact that roughly $4-million is invested into the operations at Bonnechere Manor in Renfrew and Miramichi Lodge each year.
Chair of Health Committee, Mayor Michael Donohue, proposed several solutions for the province to make long-term care homes a better place to live and work, including funding to increase the personal care minimum standard for residents and attract and retain Personal Support Workers.
Warden Debbie Robinson also highlighted the Renfrew County Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre (RCVTAC) and pointed out how it’s evolved from a focus on testing to include treatment and care of those with chronic diseases, particularly seniors who want to age at home.
County representatives from the Development and Property Committee made the case for two infrastructure projects. The projects included work at county administration building to bring all services under one roof and additional stone-dusting on the Algonquin Trail as an alternative to bike lanes on Highway 17. The County of Renfrew hopes the province will recommend both projects to the Federal government for funding.
AMO was held virtually this year due to challenges presented due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
