The Great Make-A-Wish Campout kicks off this weekend.
The Executive Director for Make-A-Wish Eastern Ontario, Tanya Desjardins, says it’s a week long event running from August 28th until September 7th.
The spokesperson for the event is 7-year-old Hillary.
Desjardins says because Hillary loves camping so much they are encouraging others to camp in any way possible to help grant wishes for other children.
Desjardins says on her 6th birthday Hillary overheard doctors say she was going to die.
Hillary was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder called Idiopathic Acquired Aplastic Anemia.
Desjardins says they wanted to make her birthday this year one she would remember.
Since Hillary loves the outdoors and camping, this year on her birthday her wish was granted and she was given a camper where she can spend time with her family and host YouTube videos with her big sister.
Desjardins says there’s 250 other children in Eastern Ontario who are waiting for wishes to be granted.
Those participating in the Great Make-A-Wish Campout can make a donation online to help grant more wishes like Hillary’s.
