A group that’s currently on a 2,000 kilometer canoe trip to raise money for COVID-19 relief will be stopping in Pembroke this weekend.
The Marketing, Event Planning and Recruitment Coordinator at Algonquin College, Jodi Bucholtz, says two of the individuals will be attending the Pembroke campus this fall as part of the Outdoor Adventure program.
Bucholtz says this will be the first time that Cailan Robinson and Georges Kirijian will get to see the campus they’re attending.
The duo are part of a six person crew that started their canoe trip in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Bucholtz says they have already exceeded the $60,000 goal they set at the start of the journey with upwards of $70,000 raised to date.
The Canoe 4 COVID crew will row up to the shores of the Pembroke campus on Saturday (August 22nd).
Bucholtz says they will have a small celebration along the waterfront before the group continues on their journey to Parliament Hill.
Donations towards the Canoe 4 COVID cause will go to support Food Banks Canada.
You can follow along with the journey and make donations online.
The 60 day, 2,000 kilometer canoe ride is expected to wrap up by Monday, August 24th.
