Education Minister Stephen Lecce has laid out the provinces new elementary math curriculum. The new curriculum for students in Grades 1-8 will teach mandatory financial literacy concepts to learn about personal budgeting and understand interest and debt. Coding and computer programming would also start as early as Grade 1. Lecce says the new curriculum was implemented after a decade of declining math scores and will be launched in the fall.
The last update to Ontario’s elementary math curriculum was in 2005.
