
The province of Ontario has deployed an aerial fire suppression team that will help battle active forest fires in Quebec.
Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry and Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke MPP John Yakabuski says this includes aircraft, pilots, aircraft mechanic engineers and an air attack officer.
Yakabuski said in a social media post, Ontario proudly participates in mutual aid agreements and following a request for assistance from the province of Quebec they’ve sent personnel and resources.
Ontario will provide 60 Fire Rangers and 2 support staff to help control the escalated fire activity in Quebec.
A forest fire north of Lac Saint-Jean has destroyed more than 72,000 hectares and is still not under control. The blaze was first reported on June 16th and the cause of the fire is listed as recreational.
This morning (June 22nd), there was 22 active forest fires across Quebec.
