With the heatwave sweeping the Valley finding places to cool down is difficult. Municipal facilities such as Renfrew Town Hall, Library, Recreation Centre, and Ma-Te-Way Activity Centre remain closed to the public. Reopening plans for at least one of the facilities is being worked on but the others have to wait until provincial mandates are changed. However, the town with guidance from the health unit has some suggestions for staying cool.
Drinking plenty of water, even before feeling thirsty.
Wearing loose-fitting, light-colored, and breathable clothing.
Take a cool shower or bath to feel refreshed.
Shade yourself from the sun using a wide brim hat or umbrella.
Reschedule or plan an outdoor activity during cooler parts of the day.
It’s a good idea to check in on those who may be vulnerable to the heat. The heat warning currently in place is expected to lift on Friday.
