The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP has laid impaired driving charges after a collision on Highway 41 in North Algona Wilberforce Township. Officers were called to the scene just north of Lake Dore Road around 9:00 pm on Thursday night (May 21st).
The driver fled the scene on foot and the canine unit, OPP remotely piloted aircraft system and local firefighters tried to find the individual, but were unsuccessful. Shortly before 8:00am this morning (May 22nd) an individual turned themselves in. Police say 32-year-old Zachary Ashick of Bonnechere Valley has been charged with operation of a vehicle while impaired.
The accused was released from custody and scheduled to appear in court in Pembroke on July 28th.
