Even as Education Minister Stephen Lecce was speaking to announce his Framework for Voluntary Redeployment of Education Workers to Fill Staffing Shortages Thursday afternoon, the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDSB) announced it was on board with the plan.
The board is working with local labour leaders on an agreement to provide education workers with the opportunity to voluntarily and temporarily support frontline workers in taking care of our most vulnerable.
The RCCDSB says information will be made available to all board employees in the coming days.
Eligible education staff who volunteer will be able to register through an online portal and to be matched with settings that are facing staffing shortages.
Temporarily redeployed employees will be eligible for the pandemic premium pay if matched to eligible institutions (e.g. long-term care homes) and working in an eligible role.
As staffing needs in care settings vary across the province, it remains to be seen what opportunities RCCDSB voluntarily redeployed workers might be able to fill.
