Unemployment in our area is almost double what it was this time last year. Stats Canada estimates from Pembroke to Kingston unemployment has climbed from 5.4% in April of 2019 to 10% in April of 2020.
The numbers show an additional 9,400 people are out of work when compared to this time last year. 8,200 people were added to the unemployment list during the COVID-19 outbreak from March to April.
The labour survey estimates 198,700 of the 220,700 people in the workforce for the Pembroke to Kingston area are of people were still working last month (April 2020).
