The Township of Laurentian Valley discussed the 2020 tax impact as part of a virtual council meeting this week.
On Tuesday night (May 5th), Treasurer Charlene Jackson told councillors based off the 2019 rate, residents can expect to see a 2.4% increase for residential taxes (an increase of $9.37 per $100,000/assessment), a slight increase from the county at 0.58% (an increase of $2.12 per $100,000/assessment), and a drop of almost 5% in the education portion of the tax bill (a decrease of $8 per $100,000/assessment).
Jackson says this translates to a $3.49 tax impact on a residential household per $100,000 in assessment.
The levy increase in Laurentian Valley was pegged at 4.92%.
Breakdown of the residential tax impact:
A tax rate by-law for Laurentian Valley will be prepared for the May 19th council meeting. The due date for non-commercial properties is in July and September with commercial and industrial properties paying taxes in August and October.
Back in January, council passed the user-pay budget. Sewer rates went up 2%, collection fees increased $5 per household and water is going up $25 for the year, showing a 3.8% increase.
