As if COVID isn’t enough of a crisis, now Arnprior has pressing watermain worries.
Mayor Walter Stack says as luck would have it, it involves the most difficult and costly of the three watermains that cross the Madawaska River- the one that caused a mess of trouble back in 2017.
Stack says the watermain that crosses the river between Russell Street and Jack Crescent was noticed to be leaking again on April 20th.
Because of the estimated 500 thousand to 600 thousand dollar unanticipated repair cost, Council will see if there’s any stopgap measure that can be done.
The Town cannot have two of these watermains down at once, so the repair must be finished before the end of July, when work on the main attached to the Madawaska Bridge begins.
Stack believes Council will have the information needed to make the decision by its first meeting in May.
