RC-VTAC, the Renfrew County Virtual Triage and Assessment Centre, is making a big difference in patient access, while easing strain on hospital emergency rooms as we grapple with the COVID-19 crisis.
Dr. Jonathan Fitzsimon, Clinical Coordinator, RC VTAC and Chief of Medicine, Arnprior Regional Health, says it all came together in a matter of twelve days.
He says the RC VTAC service has proven its worth during its first month of operation.
Over 550 patients have received an in-home assessment from a community paramedic and 80% of those met the criteria for COVID-19 testing.

That said, Dr. Fitzsimon says you should still be calling 9-1-1 if you think you’re experiencing a heart attack or stroke, have major bleeding or severe breathing problems.
