The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is cautioning that some of its member communities could be staring bankruptcy in the face.
The federation says there’s a glaring need for federal funding to ease the COVID crunch.
FCM president Bill Karsten notes municipalities are working flat-out to support Candians through the Pandemic, but have yet to hear anything hopeful about an anticipated 10 to 15 billion dollar deficiency in the revenue to local governments nationwide.
Karsten wants the Feds to ease the crunch by providing 10 billion dollars immediately-$7.6 billion in direct federal allocations to all municipalities, plus $2.4 billion for those with transit systems.
The FCM President issued his call Thursday (April 23rd) in Ottawa.
