A fraud call from a local business at the end of March was just the tip of the iceberg.
The subsequent Renfrew OPP Detachment investigation revealed that multiple fraudulent purchases had been made by an Ottawa man.
The Renfrew County Crime Unit assisted with the investigation, which sees 36 year-old Sam Macleod now charged with two counts of Fraud over $5000, two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000, two counts of Failure to Comply with a Recognizance, as well as Possession of over 30 grams dried Cannabis, Possession of Cannabis for the purpose of distributing and Possession of Cannabis for the purpose of selling.
Macleod’s spending spree is alleged to have run up to over 26 thousand dollars.
The accused was released on promise to appear at Court in Renfrew on June 17th.
Police suggest Renfrew residents ought to review their credit card statements for unfamiliar purchases, as the investigation continues.
