As if long-term care home residents don’t have enough to fret over with COVID-19, the Outaouais Board of Health is taking steps to assure residents in Gatineau they are safe, after the one of the owners of Manoir Saint-Marie private residence for the elderly, Naji Kamar, was arrested Wednesday by the city police in connection with a sexual assault case.
Following his arrest, workers from the Board of Health were dispatched to support residents and their families and assure them protective measures have been put in place.
On February 7th, a complaint about sexual touching was made to the office of the Commissioner.
Kamar was banned from the premises and the impacted resident was transferred to another facility.
The home is operated by three owners including the son of Mr. Kama, who took over responsibility of operating the residence.
CISSS de l’Outaouais takes the situation at Manoir Saint-Marie very seriously.
The Health Board is now maintaining a daily presence at Manoir Saint-Marie and is reassured by the cooperation of the home’s other owners both concerning the situation, and also in the pandemic context of COVID-19.
