The number of COVID-19 cases in Canada continues to grow with Ontario and Quebec leading the way in confirmed cases. As of last night (April 6th), there was 16,667 cases across Canada with 8,580 COVID-19 cases in Quebec.
Health officials in Ontario confirmed another 379 cases of COVID-19 today (April 7th) including 21 additional deaths. That brings the number of new cases in the province to 4,726 with 153 deaths.
There are now 614 people in Ontario hospitalized with COVID-19, with 233 of them in intensive care and 187 of those people on ventilators.
At least 51 long-term care homes in Ontario have one or more cases of COVID-19, and there have been at least 69 deaths in those institutions.
More than 500 health-care workers in the province have tested positive, representing about 11 per cent of all of the confirmed cases in Ontario.
In Renfrew County and District the health unit has confirmed nine cases and one death. The numbers released yesterday afternoon (April 6th) show the Renfrew County and District Health Unit has tested 533 people with 161 test results still pending.
