L’Isle-aux-Allumettes is bucking the trend of supporting Quebec Premier Francois Legault’s decision to close the border with Ontario.
Municipal Council held an urgent meeting Tuesday March 31st to discuss the matter.
Members cite the close proximity and relationship with Renfrew County as well as the lack of essential services in the west of the Pontiac.
L’Isle-aux-Allumettes councillors also expressed their concerns about limiting travel within the Outaouais.
While members support the measure as part of the Province of Quebec’s strategy to limit the spread of the virus, they would have appreciated prior consultation on its impact.
Council continues to support the access for municipal residents to Ontario for their essential services- but urges all cottagers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel to the area, as recommended.
