COVID-19 is in our communities and the Chief Paramedic for the County of Renfrew, Mike Nolan, says we’re just approaching the start of the pandemic here.
Nolan says they are looking at options for a mass treatment centre in Renfrew County that could be at either legions or recreation facilities and hold up to 500 beds.
The Chief Paramedic says many people that are in intensive care as a result of COVID-19 are between 30 and 50 years of age.
Nolan says the Community Paramedic Response Unit and Sierra Teams are working with negative pressure contamination units to stretcher patients in critical condition while limiting the risk of exposure to front-line workers and the community.
The County of Renfrew has received 1,600 litres of hand sanitizer from Dairy Distillery in Almonte and help from CNL, Algonquin College and other businesses. Nolan says gowns, gloves and N95 masks are still needed.

The Chief Paramedic for the County of Renfrew says the RCVTAC program is completely funded by the Ministry of Health and looks to reduce the number of 911 calls and trips to hospital rooms.
