The Ontario Real Estate Association (OREA) is encouraging responsible behaviour by the Province’s landlords.
OREA President Sean Morrison has a message for Ontario Tenants, Landlords & Realtors.
He says with rent being due today, landlords should clearly be aware that the Provincial government has ordered Ontarians to stay at home, follow public health guidelines and practice social distancing during this COVID-19 pandemic.
OREA is calling on all landlords to stop in-person showings of tenant-occupied properties, and to desist in seeking another tenant during the State of Emergency.
Morrison says tenants with an underlying medical issue or who are otherwise at risk should NEVER be forced to allow strangers into their home during the declared Emergency.
The OREA president says if tenants CAN pay their rent, they SHOULD.
If they cannot, the tenant and landlord should work together to find an interim solution.
Finally, Morrison says realtors ought to suspend all face-to-face interactions with potential clients; they have the tools and capabilities to do showings virtually and they should use them during the pandemic.
