The Chief Medical Officer of Health in Ontario, Doctor David Williams, is strongly recommending you only leave your home for essential reasons. Williams says this includes accessing health care services, getting groceries, picking up medication at the pharmacy, walking pets when required and supporting vulnerable community members.
Williams says everyone has a role to play in reducing the risk of spreading COVID-19. He adds whenever possible you should limit the number of essential trips and practice physical distancing by staying two meters away from other people.
The Chief Medical Officer of Health says given the risk to those who are elderly he’s recommending everyone over the age of 70 to self-isolate. This applies to individuals who have compromised immune systems or underlying medical conditions.
Doctor Williams is asking that individuals look at how they can support others by taking necessary actions. He says do not underestimate the impact your actions will have in helping stop the spread of the virus.
