Premier Doug Ford says he’s coming after anyone jacking up prices of in-demand goods during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ford says his cabinet is preparing an order aimed at fighting price-gouging – calling the behaviour disgusting.
In announcing the crackdown, he singled out specialty foods store Pusateri’s for charging 30-dollars for Lysol disinfecting wipes. Pusateri’s has apologized for what it says was a mistake and is promising a full refund to anyone who bought the wipes.
The province says there have been 170 more cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the total to 858. That includes 13 deaths. At least 12 of the new cases are hospitalized, including two people in their 20s.
I just received a statement from Pusateri’s after Premier Ford @fordnation slammed them and called them out, based on @ColinDMello’s question, for charging $29.99 for one can of lysol wipes. #onpoli #breaking pic.twitter.com/jeK9KCR8zc
