A total of 588 people in the province of Ontario have tested positive for COVID-19 with over 10,000 results still under investigation. The number of new cases today was up 85 from yesterday. So far eight people have died, eight people have recovered from the novel coronavirus in Ontario. Across Canada over 1,700 people have tested positive and 25 people have died from COVID-19.
This morning (March 24th), the Renfrew County and District Health Unit confirmed a Quebec resident working in the area had tested positive for COVID-19. The health unit says with help from the employer they’ve identified workers in Renfrew County and District who could have been exposed. These individuals have been given specific instruction to self isolate and monitor for symptoms.
There are currently no lab confirmed cases in Renfrew County, but the health unit is reminding residents social distancing will help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The province of Ontario has declared a state of emergency over the COVID-19 pandemic. All non-essential businesses have been forced to close and it was recently announced that all families, small businesses and farms will have electricity rates set to off-peak for the next 45 days.
The province says they’ve secured 12-million sets of surgical gloves, 1-million N95 respirators and nearly 6-million more surgical masks to protect frontline health care workers.
