The local health unit wants you to take social distancing seriously. There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Renfrew County, and you have an active role in ensuring that it remains that way for as long as possible. You’re encouraged to stay home unless necessary and to cancel any get-togethers you’ve planned. You can go for a walk, get your groceries or go to the store as needed, but be sure to follow proper hygiene, including washing your hands, keeping a safe distance of two metres from those around you and avoid crowds. The Renfrew County and District Health Unit adds to avoid visiting long term care homes, hospitals or other care centres, to talk to your supervisor about working from home if at all possible and to consider meetings using face-time or over the phone. This is not just for your protection but for those who are vulnerable in our community, whose immune systems may not be as strong as yours. Only those with respiratory symptoms, including fever and a cough will be tested for COVID-19 and if you’ve been out of the country, ensure you’re self-isolating for two weeks, have your groceries delivered and stay put. In the meantime, if you are showing symptoms, you’re encouraged to contact the health unit directly and do not go to the hospital.
