Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says there’s nothing the government won’t do to protect and keep you safe. Trudeau addressed the country for the fourth day in a row about the COVID-19 pandemic. This week the Canadian border was closed to all non-residents with a few exceptions. The border closure will come into effect Friday night into Saturday morning with essential workers still able to cross. Trudeau says there’s a lot of misinformation out there right now and they are encouraging all Canadians to come home. The Prime Minister says Canadians who are still abroad will have access to up to $5,000 to get home.
Yesterday the federal government announced $82-billion in support Canadians and to fight COVID-19. Trudeau says by May a single mother of two will receive $1,500 because of the increase in the Canada Child Benefit and GST credits. He adds those worried about housing costs won’t have to pay their mortgage for six months. Trudeau says $25-million will be used to support researchers across the country to help detect, reduce and manage COVID-19. Loans, financing and payroll measures for small businesses are expected to be available soon as the new programs get rolled out. More information is available online here.
