Long-term-care homes across Ontario are being told to only allow essential visitors. The Chief Medical Officer of Health says exceptions will be made for residents who require end of life care or those who are very ill. All other visitors are being asked to keep in touch with loved ones by phone or other technology. This recommendation was made as the province continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation in all long-term care facilities, retirement and seniors homes. The province says this will be a difficult time for many as visits provide important social connections and help improve the quality of life for residents. The Chief Medical Officer of Health says during the global pandemic the health and well-being of all residents, especially those in retirement homes who may be vulnerable to diseases, remains the number one priority. The province has announced $5-million to protect seniors through increased infection control and active screening procedures. Licensed retirement homes across Ontario and here in Renfrew County will continue to actively screen all visitors and staff before the facilities.
