In a bid to raise awareness of the growing issue of youth homelessness in Renfrew County, the Sleep-Out for Safe Shelter was held Friday (March 6th) at the Family and Children’s Services Office on Argyle Street South in Renfrew.
Steve Nicholls is the project lead with Safe Shelter for Youth.
He says fifteen people in all took part.
The Sleep Out for Safe Shelter event was the first-ever in Renfrew, joining the Coldest Night of the Year and One Cold Night events in Pembroke and Arnprior.
Nicholls says awareness of the issue is important, as Safe Shelter for Youth is not part of Family and Children’s Services core mandate, and receives no government funding.
The program has helped 180 Renfrew County youths over its five-year history.
