Arnprior Mayor Walter Stack has been dissuaded of any conspiracy theories about flooding on the Ottawa River.
The Mayor, and Councillor Chris Toner attended a recent by-invitation-only session for municipal officials hosted by Ontario Power Generation.
Attending were elected officials and staff from wards of Ottawa impacted by last year’s flood, as well as Valley communities.
Stack says the gathering was told that most of the dams along the river do not have a function that controls water levels.
He says OPG keeps track of a number of weather forecasts in calculating water release on the dams it does control, but last Spring, two devastating days of rain no one had predicted contributed to raising volumes of water unexpectedly.
Stack is trying to arrange for a OPG presentation for local residents who were impacted by 2019 flooding to address their individual concerns.
