Ice time at Ma-te-way shouldn’t be an issue even with the Kanata Lasers relocating to Renfrew. The Director of Parks, Recreation and Facilities with the Town of Renfrew, Kevin Hill, says they’re excited to have Junior A hockey for local residents to enjoy. Hill says the Town of Renfrew is waiting to hear back regarding a grant application to build a second ice pad.
Hill says they were told they would hear back sometime this winter about their application. He says while managing ice time has always been a struggle, he doesn’t expect there to be any impact on the other users with the new hockey team coming to town. Hill adds they will host 10 additional home games per year and the team will practice in the afternoons.
The announcement of the new hockey team coming to Renfrew was made earlier this week. The Renfrew Timberwolves plan to relocate their Junior B hockey team nearby.
