Hydro One says we could see extended power outages in the Ottawa Valley as a result of a major winter storm tonight into tomorrow. Hydro One is gearing up for the winter storm that’s expected to bring significant amounts of snow, freezing rain and high winds to several regions of Ontario. Some areas in Renfrew County could see upwards of 40 cm of snow fall before tapering off into flurries Thursday night. In the result of a power outage an estimated time of restoration will be determined once damage is assessed with information updated online every 10-minutes from crews on the ground. While crews are prepared for the storm, Hydro One is still encouraging customers to have an emergency preparedness kit.
Emergency preparedness kits should include:
- Water and food that won’t spoil for all family members, including pets
- A manual can opener
- Windup or battery-powered flashlight and radio
- Batteries and extended battery chargers
- Cash
- First aid kit and medical items
- Blankets
- Emergency numbers including Hydro One’s power outage hotline, 1-800-434-1235
- Fully charged cell-phone or have at least one corded phone at home; a cordless phone will not work in a power outage
Keep your emergency kit in a backpack and make sure everyone in your home knows where to find it. Watch for updates on the Hydro One outage map here.
