There’s mixed reaction from the local cab companies in Arnprior to the news that the ride-share service Lyft is now operating in town.
Murray’s Taxi believes its clientele are loyal cab customers, who will remain so but a spokesperson declined the opportunity to comment on-air.
Dwight Halpenny of Grab-a-Cab says local operators were blindsided by the Monday announcement that the Town of Arnprior had rolled out the Lyft welcome-mat.
Carl, a driver with A-1 Taxi, says the more the merrier.
Ontario’s Municipal Act gives local communities the power to licence and regulate Taxis, including establishing rates, inspecting vehicles and licencing individual drivers.
At present, Arnprior does not exercise this authority.
