A house fire on Chenaux Road in Whitewater Region has claimed the lives of two pets.
Acting Whitewater Region Fire Chief Jonathan McLaren says a cat and a dog perished in the blaze, but the home’s occupants were at work.
McLaren says the call came in just after 1:45PM, and members from all five of the Townships fire stations- a total of thirty firefighters responded.
Crews spent about four hours putting out the blaze, and the house was totally destroyed.
The Acting Chief says County Paramedics remained on scene to help with firefighter rehab, while the OPP directed traffic and assisted the traumatized residents once they reached home.
McLaren says the cause of the fire still under investigation.
