Here’s an update on a story we brought you earlier this winter. Renfrew County says a new ride sharing service is getting ready to launch. Staff have been working with RideShark to match individuals looking for transportation. At the County of Renfrew Development and Property Committee meeting on Tuesday, councillors heard an update on the ride sharing service. Manager of Economic Development and Tourism, Alastair Baird, says with public transportation options such as bussing and trains not an option in Renfrew County, they had to look at other options to get residents moving.
Baird says they’ve heard from local businesses that transportation remains a barrier for many employees. With this new service, businesses can create internal pages for employees to find co-workers who may be able to pick them up. Information and research coordinator for economic development with the County of Renfrew, Jackie Stott, says RideShark will connect people looking to go just about anywhere.
Stott says RideShark will show you nearby people who may be driving, cycling or walking and will even compare reductions of greenhouse gas emissions. The new ride sharing service is expected to be fully operational within the next month. You can create an online account now at www.sharetheride.ca and will be notified of available trips nearby. You must be at least 18-years of age to use the service and provide details on gender, if you’re a smoker, a photo, your schedule, address and trip start and end locations.
