Whitewater Region is considering the possibility of only having a part-time Fire Chief. The Township has parted ways with Fire Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator Jonathan Wilker after two years. Wilker is now exploring other professional opportunities as a full-time Fire Chief. Whitewater Region is reviewing the structure of the Fire Department after a successful two-year transition. Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan McLaren will be serving as Acting Chief on an interim basis. Emergency Management duties will be reassigned to another member of the staff team. A report will be coming to Council in February for council to consider moving from a full-time to a part-time Fire Chief.
