We asked: Who should be on the new $5 bill?

This week the Bank of Canada launched public consultations to select an  iconic Canadian to appear on the new five-dollar bill. Canada’s first Francophone Prime Minister, Sir Wilfred Laurier has been on the bill since 1972. Our news team hit the streets to see who people think should be on the new bill.

In 2018, the Bank of Canada went through a similar public process for the ten-dollar bill. With input from the public, the Bank chose civil rights icon Viola Desmond to adorn the ten. Canadians can submit nominations for the new five dollar bill by using the Bank of Canada’s submission form at http://bankofcanada.ca.
