Good news for municipalities looking for a little extra funding for projects that would otherwise be pushed to the back burner. Renfrew Reeve Peter Emon says the province has announced another intake for the RED program. Emon says it’s a perfect opportunity for small towns, such as ours, to make applications for provincial funding for economic development. However, he adds there are other funding streams to tap into as well.
Emon says that money could go a long way to support both of the town’s museums, the McDougall Mill and NHA/NHL, as well as the library. In addition, he hopes this new stream of funding could further a project about to get underway in downtown Renfrew, bringing in public Wi-Fi sites for residents and visitors to access while shopping. They’re thinking of starting with Low Square and moving out from there. The turnover for this funding is quick however, as applications need to be in before the end of February.
