When it first came out, Pokémon Go caused some security concerns at Canadian Armed Forces locations. According to reports from the CBC, within days of the game launching, there was a noticeable increase in those playing the game at several military bases including Garrison Petawawa. Pokémon Go launched in July of 2016 and it took CBC 3.5 years to obtain the documents from the Department of National Defense. Reports say eight days after the game launched, military police in Canada issued a criminal intelligence advisory to deal with the matter. Kids were playing on tanks and there was other potential safety risk. However, the game also attracted more people to military museums. The documents show that at one point, three military police members, including one in Petawawa were tasked with finding all the virtual Pokémon infrastructure around the base.
