A Burlington-based recycling provider is not in a position to confirm the potential opening of a Renfrew Division at this time, but the Town of Renfrew says the municipality has been in talks over use of the former Beaumen Waste Management Site on Lisgar Avenue.
Beaumen closed its doors in June of last year, leaving a number of Renfrew County municipalities scrambling to find another company to handle recycling.
Horton Mayor Dave Bennett says many communities entered into interim arrangements that came with a hefty boost in billings, unforeseen when 2019 municipal budgets were drafted.
The Horton Mayor says he too has heard talk that another provider may open at the former Beaumen site, and believes that keeping it local might save money.
Tyler Armstrong with the Town of Renfrew says his municipality is also preparing a Request-for-Proposals to handle the community’s recycling which will come before Council in the near future.
