The Canadian Armed Forces has pulled dozens of soldiers out of Iraq as tensions in the middle east continue to rise. There’s been reports of multiple missile strikes at American and allied bases in Iraq. Roughly 500 Canadian soldiers are currently posted in Iraq including at one city that was targeted. The Canadian Armed Forces started pulling soldiers out of Iraq just hours before the attack. An assessment of the damage is currently underway.
Media Relations for the Canadian Armed Forces could not confirm with myFM if any of the soldiers posted in the current war zone are from Petawawa. The Department of National Defense says they are continuing to monitor the situation in Iraq and will be taking measures to re-position some forces to Kuwait where the Joint Task Force-Impact is headquartered. The Canadian Armed Forces says they are in close coordination with allies in this matter and despite this re-positioning will maintain presence in Iraq.
