In his final words for 2019….. Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry John Yakabuski mentions how a properly managed forest will provide a sustainable supply of lumber for generations.
Round table talks are planned to be held across the province to gather input from stake holders, municipalities and Indigenous communities to ensure an even higher potential for sustainable products is achieved in the coming year.
Yakabuski released a draft forest sector strategy a few weeks ago explaining how the government plans to improve the cost competitiveness and foster innovation in the wood market as the product is expected to grow by 30 percent by the year 2030.
A copy of the draft strategy can be viewed on the Environmental Registry and residents are able to make comments until February 5th.
