Officials at the County of Renfrew have declared a significant weather event heading into the ice storm set to hit the region. The County of Renfrew says the emergency declaration means they may not be able to meet maintenance standards for county roads due to weather conditions. This doesn’t change how or when winter maintenance operations are performed.
Environment Canada has upgraded a special weather statement to a freezing rain warning calling for a combination of ice pellets, snow and freezing rain Sunday into Monday. There’s a high chance of precipitation until 1:00 pm on Monday, December 30th .
With freezing rain comes the risk of power outages so residents should be prepared. Hydro One crews are preparing for a number of weather related power outages in affected areas. Outage tools will be updated every 10 minutes as information comes in from the crews on-site. We prioritize emergencies and restoration in a way that brings power back to the largest number of customers in the shortest period of time. You can follow the Hydro One outage map here for the latest updates.
The OPP is reminding drivers to go slow, take your time and make sure to clean all the snow and ice off your vehicle before heading out on the roads.
