A coach with roots in Renfrew is heading to the Czech Republic this Christmas. Alan Letang, assistant coach to Canada’s National Junior team is packing his bags for the World Junior Tournament this holiday season. Letang’s resume is impressive, with a 20 year professional career, including 14 games in the NHL, Letang was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the eighth round of the 1993 NHL draft pick and played for the Dallas Stars, Calgary Flames and New York Islanders. The married father of two is also the head coach of the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL, he won a bronze medal with Canada’s national team in 2006 in Germany and won the Spengler Cup in 1998. In addition, Letang was the head coach for Croatia the 2016 IIHF World Championship. The tournament continues until January 5 and Canada’s first game is against the US on Boxing Day.
