The Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) becomes the first provincial body to add a childcare option for delegates, at its upcoming 2020 municipal convention.
Director Joe Tiernay says specifically, they are responding to a recent call for action made by Admaston-Bromley Mayor Michael Donohue that OGRA representatives saw on the myFM website.
Tiernay says that nationally, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities was first off the mark to offer childcare, but the FCM model is both costly and cumbersome.
The daycare service will be available at the Good Roads Conference at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto February 23rd to the 26th.
In his comments to myFM, Mayor Donohue noted that if municipal councils wish to attract younger candidates, offering childcare at conferences would be a bonus.
Tiernay says the initiative will be assessed for cost-effectiveness before any decision is made to continue the childcare-at-conferences option in the future.
