RV’s at Lake Clear continue to be a problem in Bonnechere Valley. In November, the Lake Clear Property Owners Association provided an update to council. President Judy Bates says the lake is deemed at capacity, meaning development has been halted, but RV’s are getting a pass under the current by-law. At last count, there was 55 RV’s around Lake Clear with the majority of them (46) staying year round. Bates says members with the Lake Clear Property Association are concerned about deteriorating water quality.
Bates says this issue has been ongoing for over four years now. Bonnechere Valley council was encouraged to seek legal advice to review the by-law, which allows RV’s to continue to set up at Lake Clear. With recent staffing changes at the CAO level, the township asked for more time. Council also told the Lake Clear Property Owners Association they are waiting to hear back from environmental experts to get a phosphate chart to see how much RV’s are contributing to the problem. Lake Clear is one of the few bodies of water in Ontario that has Lake Trout and Walleye.
