If the squelch of dial-up internet still rings in your ears, take heart.
It’s been a patient wait for cell phone and internet in some of the more remote or difficult to service areas of Renfrew County, but that may be changing.
Greater Madawaska Township Mayor Brian Hunt says the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) that has spearheaded the drive for improved coverage, now has a good handle on where additional cell towers need to go, and those will be tendered for in 2020.
Hunt says Bell has the technology to bring internet hot spots via a cellular network, but it has no spectrum allocation within Renfrew County.
Hunt is hopeful some of the technological obstacles can be tamed as early as the coming year.
