The prognosis is difficult to accept, but a Pembroke area family hopes radiation treatments will make their daughter’s remaining days the best they can be.
Three year-old Grace has been diagnosed with a large, inoperable, brain stem tumour.
Parents Joey and Rhindee, both self-employed, had been hoping to pursue treatment for Grace overseas, but have found out that medical trials in both the United States and the United Kingdom have failed to yield any positive results.
After consultation with Sick Kids in Toronto, the parents are opting for radiation treatments to slow the growth of the cancer and get Grace off of steroid treatments.
Those treatments are to begin this week and will go for six weeks straight, home on weekends.
The community is responding generously to the family’s plight. Money from a Go-Fund-Me page established by a family friend has well exceeded the $15 000 goal.
The funds will help maintain quality of life for Grace for the estimated six months she has remaining, and help the family make memories together.
The Go Fund Me page is entitled “help Grace and her parents beat the odds together”, and any contribution is most welcome.
