When the County of Renfrew is through with the reconstruction of the Madawaska River Bridge in Arnprior, there will be a change in height in the railing fence lining both sides of the structure.
Arnprior Mayor Walter Stack says Ontario Power Generation (OPG) had wanted a six foot high fence, but Town Council balked.
There was a lot of back-and-forth over how high the fence was going to be, but the matter was quietly resolved at the last Arnprior Council meeting in October, when a municipal bylaw was approved.
The new fence will replace one that was six inches shorter than what is now proposed.
The Mayor says the Town was insistent in getting its way, as the view of the weir is a tourist attraction.
OPG’s own standards call for a six foot high barrier, but the fence is on Town of Arnprior lands.
